EJ Pedagogy

Advancing Environmental Justice Pedagogies, Sept 2023
by Stanford EJWG Education Team

The Stanford Environmental Justice Working Group Education Team has developed a white paper to help instructors of sustainability courses center environmental justice (EJ) more deeply within their courses. We hope this white paper serves as a useful tool for instructors within the Doerr School of Sustainability, as well as those across and beyond Stanford campus. We draw upon and synthesize existing literature from the field of EJ pedagogy and other teaching and learning frameworks, and recommend actionable practices for instructors to experiment with. We also share evaluation rubrics that instructors can use to track their progress, as well as implementation guides to help school administrations support instructors in centering EJ pedagogy. Within the coming months, we will also release a series of adaptable teaching modules that provide instructors with customizable learning plans and resources for centering EJ in sustainability courses.

We eagerly invite your feedback on the white paper! Please share your thoughts with us at: [email protected].
