2025
  • Just Transitions Policy Lab: In winter, 2025, the Just Transitions Policy Lab was led by Angel Manuel De Dios, Zofia Trexler, Kenny Hua, Junah Jang, and Sibyl Diver in support of five community-led research initiatives. We focused project work on transportation justice, housing justice, and labor equity concerns identified by neighboring communities to Stanford and our service workers.

    Projects this year included collaborations with: 
    1) Communities for a Better Environment on a community resilience hub planning initiative;
    2) East Palo Alto community leaders understanding public health impacts from the Palo Alto airport for local residents;
    3) SEIU 2007 conducting a follow-up transportation needs survey of Stanford service workers;
    4) Faith in Action Bay Area analyzing local housing affordability issues and policy-making; and
    5) Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve (’Ootchamin ’Ooyakma) and the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe conducting research on tribal co-stewardship. 
  • Environmental Storytelling Anthology: Fronds 2025 Third Edition - In a brand-new class, EARTHSYS 131J collected, assembled, and edited this year’s edition of Fronds, Stanford's environmental storytelling anthology! This was the third edition of this anthology, which began in 2023. Over ten weeks, an incredible group of students worked to think about how justice focused storytelling manifests, in the ways we not only write stories, but also how we package and share them with the world. Thank you to those EJWG members who shared their work with us, and celebrated together at the O'Donohue Family Farm last May!  Please look for a reprise of this class for winter quarter, academic year 2025-26.   • Student-Led Environmental Justice in Engineering Colloquium - The Environmental Justice in Engineering Colloquium is a student-led initiative to center careers and speakers in equity centered engineering practice. This two-part series included a "Equity & Engineering Practice Speaker Panel" & a session on "Careers Centering Equity in Civil & Environmental Engineering." (March)
  • Haas Center Cardinal Service Community-Engaged Research seminar series for Stanford graduate students interested in learning more about and developing skills in community-engaged scholarship and community-based research (Winter)
  • Bill Lane Center's Environmental Justice and Sustainability Seminar series (Winter)
  • Fireside chat with Catherine Coleman Flowers, Founder, Center for Rural Enterprise and Environmental Justice. Catherine is this year's Conradin von Gugelberg Memorial speaker and the keynote speaker for the GSB's Climate, Business & Innovation Summit (February)
  • "The Environmental and Racial Justice Movements: A Common Thread" - Seminar through the Woods Institute Grad Student/Postdoc Workshop Series featuring Stanford Earth's Sibyl Diver and Emily Polk along with Veronica Garibay, co-founder and co-director of the Leadership Counsel for Justice & Accountability. Conversation on the interconnections between the environmental and racial justice movements.
  • "Opinion: Environmental justice must be foundational to the new School of Sustainability" - Op-ed published in The Stanford Daily by EJWG Coordinating Council members to convey our thoughts on the urgency of prioritizing environmental justice in the new school of sustainability and climate at Stanford, and recommendations for doing so. (January)
  • Stanford Graduate School of Business Leadership for Society seminar series, featuring a Environmental Justice session with EJ expert Leslie Fields of the Sierra Club and long time environmental advocate Tamara Toles O'Laughlin formerly with 350.org (January)

2020
  • EJ Symposium - "Environmental Justice in the Current Moment" (November)
  • EARTHTONES 2020 - An environmental justice and arts festival in celebration of people of color’s connection with their environment. Cancelled in 2020 due to COVID-19, but a Earthtones 2020 Zine was created and available here. (April)
